‘Knowing’ came to my interest when it was in pre-production, when I read that a certain Alex Proyas was attached to helm the sci-fi/supernatural action movie. To shed some light, he was the man behind the deliciously dark and noirish sci-fi drama ‘Dark City’. And if that still doesn’t ring a bell, ’I, Robot’ should. I hear a collective “oh, that guy huh?” from you guys so i needn’t go any further. If there is one thing i’m surprised about this movie, its the rather restrained acting from the movie’s male lead, Mr. Nicholas Cage Coppola. A number of his past movies actually had us close to the edge of being mightily annoyed with his over-the-top acting.
This film promised to tread on the religion versus science debate, and does so rather well in the beginning, until the actual debate starts manifesting. Don’t get me wrong, I love the religion versus science debate and since these two factors of human civilisation broke away on their separate roads 2ooo years ago, it’s really interesting to hear the debates from both sides. Some shows convincingly balance, i.e. ’Contact’ and the new Battlestar Galactica series while others let you decide, i.e. The Body (Antonio Banderas). But its a premise filled with plot landmines and thats what Proyas encounters as the movie nears its climax.
